Salamander Hideaway
TRIP DESCRIPTION

The Salamander Hidewaway Resort is a unique combination of white sand, Turquoise water and thatched roof cabanas in a remote area of Belize near the border of Mexico.  We are one of the most remote destinations in Belize.  We are surrounded by some the best fishing for tarpon, bonefish and permit on the planet. This fishing is accessible on foot right from the Salamander with bonefish and permit tailing out front at sunrise!  Or Hike back to Tarpon Lake for some exciting tarpon fishing.

Your trip begins as you land in Belize City which is serviced by many American air Carriers such as American, US Air, Continental, Taca, United and others.  It is surprisingly close and easy to get to.  Everyone on the Island speaks English as well as Spanish. Once you have cleared customs in Belize City you will head to the local airline ( we use Tropic Air 95% of the time)  The 15 minute flight to the island is included with your package. You will be met by the Salamander staff driver for the 25 minute boat ride to the resort.  This ride is entirely inside the reef so it is quite smooth and comfortable.

Speaking of smooth, I would suggest ordering a smoothie when you arrive!

You will see the the remoteness grow as you leave the larger resorts behind.Your bags will be brought to your room and by now you are wanting to change into your attire for the week: Bathing suit and bare feet.  I am not kidding, that's all you'll need for the rest of the week!  Well, for fishing you should have some shirts, hats, pants and wading shoes as well but you get the idea.  " no shoes no service is not practiced here.

Many of our trips here combine guided fishing with fishing on your own as we are surrounded by easy to access world class fishing.  There are 5 miles of grass flats stretching to the south that are extremely productive for tailing bonefish.  The nice part about the grass is that it makes fish tail more often the bad news is that it is harder to see them if they are not tailing.  Wade the deep edge and you may see permit, Wade ankle deep and you are sure to see tailing bones.

If you have reserved a guide be sure to check with the manager for the schedule in the morning.  Usually you will go out at 7 AM the first morning and then you and your guide will determine the following days.  The guide will stay out for 8 hours.  Longer hours can be arranged for an extra fee.  8 hours is good for me - if I head out at 7 and get back at 3pm I still have 3 hours of fishing on my own.   Lunch is prepared by the lodge and there are drinks and water for you on board,

Dinner is usually around 7 pm each evening with a wide range of food available.  Elsa is an excellent chef and will impress you with a 6 course dinner each evening.  Count em - 6 !

After that it is pretty hard to stay up much past 9:30.  It is always my goal to stay awake to 9:30 but truthfully I fade at about 9 pm.  On the other hand I am up at 5:30 looking for tails in the morning sunrise!
