EL PESCADOR - AMBERGRISFREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need a passport? Yes, no visa is needed in advance, but you do need a passport. What language to they speak in Belize? This is the former British Honduras and everyone speaks English as well as Spanish, Creole or Garufina. Is the food and water safe? When asked this question I am speaking about our resort, not the rest of Belize. If you travel to other parts of Belize the answer is quite different. We have our own water desalinization plant and purification system. The water is safe to drink out of your tap. These American standards insure that your food is bought, stored, prepared and served with food safety in mind. If you go to the town of San Pedro and certainly Belize City you always need to drink bottled water and be concerned about the food you select. What about money in Belize? One US dollar is worth 2 Belizean dollars . All stores accept US dollars or Belizean dollars. The prices everywhere on the island will be in Belizean dollars. Will my non-fishing family like it here? Oh yeah.... if they like warm Caribbean resorts with lots of things to d o. The rooms are great, they include all the watersport stuff free, there's tennis volleyball, snorkeling, the pool and hottub as well. You can bicycle up and down the beach for miles. Or go on one the many pay as you go excursions like diving, The manatee snorkel tour, the Mayan ruin tour - the list goes on and on. If they like warm weather and a resort that will pamper them, they will love it here. It is hard to believe they are all happy and you can fish like a madman! Are there any unexpected charges? The price for the trip includes the air and water transfers from Belize city to the resort, all taxes, fishing license, lodging, 3 meals a day, and even gratuities for the staff. The only other charges not included are: a $15 departue tax at Belize City when you leave the country, a tip for your fishing guide ($25/day/boat) and the bar tab. This one can add up so be careful!! Since you are relatively remote it costs a great deal to ship the food and beverages here. So a beer is $3.50, a mixed drink is up to $6 and even a coke is $3. There is plenty of water and punch included with the package. At the end of the trip when you check out you will settle your bar tab and pay for any extra excursions you or your family booked. In the mean time everything is charged to your room What shots do I need? The CDC recommends lots of vaccines for Belize because they are speaking about the entire country. Some areas have no sanitation at all and no waste disposal at all. You will be at risk in those areas. Most all of the diseases on the CDC list such as Typhoid are completely eliminated by normal sanitation and waste treatment. Hepatitis A has never been reported at Journeys End. Therefore the only legitimate risk on their list for visiting El Pescador is slight chance of Malaria which is carried by certain mosquitoes. Since we do have mosquitoes it is possible that Malaria could be contracted while visiting here. The risk is indeed small but it is there. Please consult you doctor about anti malaria pills if you have any concerns.
