This expedition combines horseback riding and climbing. The climb is for those in excellent physical condition.  Previous experience in mountain climbing is not necessary, but  you do need  good good arobic funcition and strong legs.  The climb is not suitable for those with cardiac or asthmatic problems.  At dawn, the horses await us in the their stables.  We begin our adventure, advancing on paths through the native forest which is interspersed with the volcanic sands of Calbuco Volcano.  We will follow the River Blanco canyon passing through breaks, beautiful rivers, and deep green forests.

After a three-hour ride, we'll be at 2,624 feet above sea level. From this point forward, the footing is not suitable for our horses and we leave them behind as we make our way upward.  We begin our climb navigating difficult stone faces, traversing sand and snow.  The exertion and challenge is well worth it, however, once the peak is finally attained.  When we have atained our goal we'll have one of the finest, northward facing views in the region.  Upon arriving at the peak, we'll take a well-deserved rest and enjoy our picnic lunch as we sit beside a smoking crater, that is hidden away on the shoulder of the volcano.

Following lunch, we' ll climb and traverse around the top of the volcano from which one may appreciate the view of Osorno Volcano, Tronador, Mt. Puntiagudo, Llanquihue, Todos Los Santos and Chapo Lakes, as well as the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Andes mountain range.  Later we will begin our return to Yan Kee Way Lodge with the satisfaction of having experienced an unforgettable day.
