GOLFITO SAILFISH RANCHO - TRIP DESCRIPTION

crgolfitoporch.jpg (26755 bytes)

Your trip starts in San Jose where you will spend the night at a hotel that is included in your package.  The next morning you will be driven to the municipal airport where you will board a very early flight to the Golfito airstrip and a quick boat ride to the lodge. You will have time to get to your room, set up a fly rod and head out to the docks for a full day fishing.  Hopefully you are only an hour away from being connected to a sailfish that is bigger than you are!.

crgolfitoroom.jpg (4864 bytes)Each day starts with an early breakfast and on the water at 6:30 each day.   The type of fishing is usually assumed to be billfish as the weather permits.   If the weather starts off good we head out to the sailfish grounds and save the inshore fishing for another day. The lodge has 10 rooms that can comfortably sleep 2-3 people.  No air-conditioning in the rooms but a ceiling fan and cool ocean breezes make the a/c a moot point anyway.  The private baths are modern and have hot water 24 hours a day.  The electricity is US voltage and no adapters are needed.   Although you need bottled water for most of Costa Rica the tap water is purified and drinkable.  There is a daily laundry service available to help you keep your packing to a minimum for the plane ride in.

crwaterfall.jpg (14873 bytes)Lunches are served aboard the boats and dinner is served in the open air restaraunt that is the central focus of the lodge.  We have lots to eat with dinner served family style.  Seafoods, pasta, meats and vegetables are all served with a local flair.  Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice. There is a small pool, a waterfall next to the lodge and a great beach for relaxing. There is not much else to do here in Golfito so if you are traveling as a non fishing member of the trip make sure you are aware of the limitations.  The fishing boats are small enough that they are restricted to fishing guests only.  Children should be 12 or over.   (from past experience younger children just do not enjoy it here).  The good news is that this lodge concentrates on the fishing and that is why most of you are reading this website! If you want to hook, fight and land a sailfish on a fly you should join us this winter or spring for  the best billfishing in the world.
